Go Wassailing in Woodstock This Weekend

If you haven’t gotten into the holiday spirit yet, this may be the weekend for you. The annual Wassail Weekend  is celebrated in Woodstock from Friday, December 8, until Sunday, December 10. There are fun and festive activities for the whole family.

Some of the weekend’s highlights include:

Friday

All weekend, Billings Farm will feature historic Christmas ornaments to make and take home. Check out the authentically decorated farmhouse, visit the dairy farm for interactive programs, and enjoy holiday activities plus the Academy Award nominee film, A Place in the Land. Also, on Sunday from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, horse-drawn sleigh or wagon rides, depending on the weather, will be offered. At 4 pm, the Woodstock Elementary School's chorus will perform on the library steps.

The Woodstock History Center will hold its Holiday Open House, which includes a tour, holiday music, and light refreshments from 5 to 7 pm. (www.woodstockhistorycenter.org)

Saturday


Breakfast with Santa will take place from 8 to 11 am at the Woodstock Little Theatre.

The Annual House Tours event will take place from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Check out some of Woodstock’s most charming homes as they deck their halls and open their doors to visitors. Docents will be at each location to provide historical information and answer questions, and some of the homes feature live performances by local musicians. Tours are at your own pace and begin at the Woodstock Town Hall Theatre.

The 33rd Annual Equestrian Parade takes place at 2 pm, coordinated by the High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program and the Woodstock Area Chamber of Commerce. The best location to watch the parade is on the Village Green is in the center.

The Woodstock Inn & Resort will host its Wassail Feast Buffet, with seatings at 5:30 pm, 5:45 pm, and 6 pm. Menu highlights include Oyster Stew, Spiced Heirloom Squash Salad, Hickory-Smoked Prime Rib, Cornmeal-Dusted Brook Trout, Cast-Iron Seared Chicken, Roasted Corn Pudding, Holiday Berry Tartlets, and Pumpkin Bread Pudding. The Memory Tree lighting ceremony will be held on the Village Green from 3 to 10 pm, with a bonfire, caroling, and 400 luminaries.

The Wassail Weekend Holiday Craft Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Woodstock Masonic Lodge. This is the perfect opportunity to find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your holiday list.

Eugene Friesen will present Cello By Candlelight at 7:30 pm at Woodstock’s North Chapel. Tickets are $15 and sold only at the door.

Sunday


The Annual Messiah Sing will take place at 4 pm at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Director Louis Burkot leads a world-class ensemble that features four soloists for this presentation of Handel’s Messiah. The audience is invited to join in for the choruses.
