5 Ski Resorts for All Budgets and Experience Levels Near Woodstock

It's snow time! It's been that time in Vermont for a while. Last month plenty of local ski resorts finally opened their doors for skiers and snowboarders alike for plenty of snow-day fun. 

If hitting the slopes is what you're after, we put together 5 ski resorts near the Woodstock area and beyond that are sure to bring you some great times, and even better powder. Read on to learn more.  

Suicide Six Ski Area

Based in South Pomphret, VT, Suicide Six is only a quick drive from Woodstock. This family-friendly resort claims to be "America’s Oldest Ski Resort" and offers opportunities for both skiers and snowboarders, with two updated terrain parks. The slopes are kept gentle and are perfect for beginners, though also offer more challenging slopes for the more experienced athlete. 

There are 3 lifts servicing 24 trails ー 30% rated as beginner terrain, 40% as intermediate and 30% as advanced ー with the longest run spanning a distance of 5,280 feet. You will find opportunities to rent or make any repairs you might need, too.

The Quechee Club Ski Hill

Quechee Ski Hill is in White River Junction and is a part of the Quechee Club. You can find slopes of all sizes here, with lessons for any of those looking to learn. They also host a ski team perfect for your 7-18 year old looking for a team sport to get into over the winter. Something unique to this resort is cross country skiing options. Clinics and tours are offered throughout the season and provide a great tour of the beautiful area.

Killington Ski Resort

According to Wikipedia, Killington Ski Resort is the largest ski area in the eastern U.S., and has the largest vertical drop in New England at 3,050 feet. Killington offers some unique opportunities for those that love getting outdoors when the snow is out. Of course, there's the classic mountain perfect for skiing, but they also have ski bike rentals, a tubing course, snowshoe tours, snowmobile tours, Snowcat-drawn sleigh rides, and more. They also host a series of fun events throughout the year that are sure to please everyone involved.

Pico Mountain Ski Resort

Pico Mountain is a neighbor of Killington and boasts a small ski area with a big resort feel. With over 19 miles of trails this mountain is perfect for beginners. Though there are plenty of options for beginners, there are also plenty of opportunities for more advanced skiers and snowboarders to get some slope time in. Pico mountain’s steepest trail, Giant Killer, is a double-black diamond and not for the faint of heart.

Whaleback Mountain

Spend the weekend in beautiful Enfield, New Hampshire and enjoy some great ski time at Whaleback Mountain. One unique thing about this particular mountain is that it's run by Upper Valley Snow Sports Foundation (UVSSF), a nonprofit entity with the mission to support and enhance an affordable, healthy, and sustainable snow sports experience in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont. So, you're supporting a great cause by skiing or snowboarding here. 

Known for being both family-friendly and affordable, Whaleback is a great place to get your feet wet (pun intended) when it comes to learning how to ski. They also offer adult ski racing, fun events, and lessons for all ages.
