Summer has arrived, which means outdoor time! Since we are all in desperate need of some fresh air, why not pack a picnic with all your favorite goodies and pick the perfect spot to enjoy the afternoon. We've got five excellent places picked out for your next picnic.

Paine’s Beach, South Royalton, VT.

This scenic spot is known as one of the Upper Valley’s prime swimming spots. Picnics here have beach access, a cement pavilion and picnic tables. Sponsored and pristinely maintained by the Heartland Lions Club, bring your family, splash around and have lunch looking out to a serene view of the White River

Pinnacle Hill. Lyme, NH.

Conserved by the Upper Valley Land Trust, Lyme’s beloved Pinnacle Hill is known for being one of the town’s oldest home sites. It’s a short hike to the top of the hill with treasures along the way! Pinnacle is a Geocache site and is also recognized on the place-based education program Vital Communities Valley Quest, that uses treasure hunts to celebrate community, natural history, cultural sites, stories, and special places. Once you hit the summit, enjoy a 360-degree view of Lyme and enjoy a fire in the chimney that still stands.

The Palisades. Fairlee, VT.

This picnic spot comes with a bit of hike but is a local favorite for a reason! The 1.1 mile trail summits at stunning rock cliffs that overlook the Fairlee Town Center and iconic Fairlee Bridge. The Palisades is another special place recognized on Valley Quest. This picnic spot is ideal for bird watchers who can see tons of Peregrine falcons who make their nests on the cliffs!

Kilowatt Park- Harford, VT.

This large park is dog friendly and is often a meet up spot for doggie playdates. There is also an easy kayak and boat launch point for water sports of all kinds. Large groups and family picnics can enjoy cooking out on the grills and sharing a meal on the picnic tables by the water. Plenty of parking, trails to hike and space to throw a blanket down!

The Dartmouth Green- Hanover, NH.

At the heart of Hanover and Dartmouth College, this 5-acre green is a great picnic spot to grab some to-go from the area’s many restaurants and park yourself in the sun. Popular among students and community members alike this is an ideal location to toss a frisbee, kick a ball, or read a book.
