Following a rapturous 2017 performance of Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin, Grammy winner Johnny Gandelsman returns with his latest project: performing Bach’s complete cello suites on violin. Best known for his work with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and genre-bending string quartet Brooklyn Rider, Gandelsman “plays with a balletic lightness of touch and a sense of whimsy and imagination.” (The Boston Globe) Throughout his career, Gandelsman has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Béla Fleck, Joshua Redman, Suzanne Vega, Renée Fleming, and Rhiannon Giddens.
