Snowshoe Tour

For the first time, Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site will offer snowshoe tours of Blow-Me-Down Farm, a 42 acre property along the Connecticut River, but usually closed to the public. Tours are free of charge and weather and conditions permitting will run at 2:00 PM, Sunday afternoons, January 25, February 8, 22, and March 8, 22. For more information, and to register, call 603-675-2175 ext 128, or email your name, contact information, and number in your party, to e-mail us. Scheduling changes and cancelations will be posted on the park website, www.nps.gov/saga, and our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SaintGaudensNPS. Tours first meet at the Visitor Center at Saint-Gaudens NHS. From there, experienced guides will direct the people to the Blow-Me-Down property, where snowshoe tours are expected to last 90 minutes. To accommodate participants, the Visitor Center will be open at 1:30 PM for orientation before the tour, and refreshments and hot cocoa will be offered after the tour. Blow-Me-Down Farm is deeply intertwined with the Cornish Art Colony and offers wonderful views of the area's winter landscape. These two factors provide a perfect backdrop for discovering local history, from the formation of Mount Ascutney and how glaciers sculpted the landscape, to the connection with the British Royal Navy, European settlement of towns along the River, and the artists of the Cornish Colony.
