WRJ Joins the Trend of Coworker Spaces: The Engine Room

Oct 26, 2016 04:13PM ● By Kirsten Gehlbach
Sharing space, sharing technology, collaborating, networking—that’s all happening, and more, in White River Junction at the end of the Freight House (formerly known as the Tupelo Music Hall) on 188 South Main Street.

If you’ve been working from a home office and want to get out of the house and work with like-minded people, this is the Upper Valley place to go. Amenities include a desk or standing desk, super-fast Internet, a spacious common area with sofas, a multifunction copier/scanner/printer, a conference room, a shower for those who want to exercise midday, and a kitchen for a coffee or lunch break.

“The coworking model is the right idea for the Upper Valley, the right idea for White River Junction,” says Amy Robb, executive director. “This is a communal area to do work. This is a sustainable, shared economy, and it’s affordable.”

The Engine Room is a 6,000-square-foot collaborative and supportive coworking environment for freelancers, startups, new media contractors, small businesses, and other professionals. With the Day Tripper/Boxcar Tourist (Hobo) Day Pass for $20, you can get a place to work for the day and choose any available desk in the common area. Bring a laptop, choose an open seat, and start working. Step up to the Hot Desk/Boiler Header Membership for $150/month for any available desk in the common area. With the Dedicated Desk/Long Hauler Membership for $300/$325 a month, you get a desk of your own in a shared office space adjacent to the common area with 24/7 access and your own key. The Engine Room is open 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday.

Although working in The Engine Room is restricted to members, the Freight House Hall will be open after 5 when The Engine Room closes and will host special events for members and the public including musical events, concerts, dance recitals, corporate functions, weddings, and more. It can accommodate up to 240 guests with a flexible seating and floor plan plus a bar/café.

Come check it out at the junction of I-89 and I-91. There’s parking available and handicap access, and it’s within walking distance of the Advance Transit bus stop (Orange route) and Amtrak station.
