Bakkhai by Euripides, a new version by Anne Carson

Come support our local Yoh Theatre Players! They will present Bakkhai in preparation for their trip to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

Alternating dialogue with Bakkhic women's odes of song and speak chorus, this new version of Euripides' text by Anne Carson brings Greek tragedy to life. Dionysos weaves his spell in the land of Thebes, seeking revenge on those who refuse to honor him. A cappela four-part harmony singing punctuates text in this living version of ancient myth, as the house of Pentheus falls. These interactions between humans, the god Dionysos, and the Bakkhai, with their connection to the Mother, bring up questions of humanity and our place in the spiritual realm. Yoh Theatre Players will present Bakkhai on Thursday, July 26 at 7pm in preparation for their trip to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Players leave on Saturday, July 28th for two weeks in London and Edinburgh to perform, experience the Fringe through workshops and performances, and to meet other actors and performers.
